Nonie Has a Rocking Good Birthday

Hoopla!
And, Rock Out!

So, Nonie’s birthday extravaganza started with a wonderful evening silkscreening beach bags with Jessica, Isaac and Yoko. Followed by pizza and presents. She had a special birthday ceremony at big girl school, and cake and singing at Lifeways. We then hit the kite festival and got very good at flying kites (no pictures as all hands were needed for the kites). And then, the big party — the theme of which was “Make Summer Arrive.” For a while it worked and we got to have almost two weeks in which it was warmer than 65/20 for the first time since September. It didn’t last, but for the birthday celebrations we actually got to be hot. We got to decorate flip flops, paint beach bags, learn to hula hoop, bash a pinata, and do silly fun things all afternoon. Then, as the lead in to Daddy’s birthday bash, Nonie got to dance and celebrate one more time.

Thank you to all of Nonie’s fantastic family and fabulous friends for making her fifth such a great and memorable event. Thank you for spoiling her and loving her and playing with her! She had a great time!

"Don’t look now Grand-rents, I think there’s a white bunny on our tail. Hee"

Despite a wet, grey, cold and nasty non-spring, April and May thus far has been bright for Nonie. She has gotten lots of opportunities to perform and got a jump-start on her birthday while visiting the family in Sarasota. More dance recital and birthday celebrations pics to follow soon.

A few Sidisms from the last week:
“What means …?”
“Is that ridiculous?”
“Could I have some privacy, please?”
“Woh-la!”
“What is it that makes me love you so much? Is it the kisses?”

The Winter (So Far)

I Won’t Have Fun!

Nonie started big girl school (with a “dress code”); we had a huge blizzard and she got a new sled, which was useful to get out of the front door that day; she got a fabulous “big girl” haircut; and we all went to a conference in St. Louis (Missouri).

We had a longish road trip there and back and Nonie was not too enamored of my paper (“what does mean give a paper, Mummy?”) and was too sick for Dad’s, but other than a great time was had by all at the Arch, on the Mississippi river (when Nonie of course made friends), at the zoo and, best of all, the City Museum (a fantasy play world for kids of all sizes). As this was where the conference closing banquet was, we were all a tad overdressed, but that did not stop fun from being had, for the most part.

Nonie’s moment of pique, serendipitously captured below a poster that says pique!

OH, OH, OH!

OH, OH, OH!

So Christmas passed in a delightful whirl and we got to spend lots of time with friends (Marina and Vitek, Pavlik and Asya, Yev and Jim on Christmas Eve, and all of Yev’s large and crazy family on Christmas day).

Nonie playing with her gifts on video will be posted soon.

Then we got to go down south to Sarasota and Orlando and hang out with Babba, Pop-pop, Ouma, Sam, Emy, and Leo. SUPER FUN, especially Nonie’s special treat for the new year: a princess makeover at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique in Disney.

All of these pics are a treat, enjoy!

Forthcoming soon, video of Nonie at Disney with her bubbleator!

Halloween!!!

Yes, yes, yes, Mummy has been remiss — time, software updates (that ensure the camera is no longer compatible with iPhoto) and all sorts of things have meant few posts for the nerdtobe fan club. So, here are a heap.

Nonie was a stunning Tinkerbell, and she went trick or treating with Azalea (Spider Woman) and Eva (Cupcake). Enjoy the pics.

Laughs Before Pancakes, Always Good.

Nonie catches up with Popop and Babba on a flying visit to NYC with Daddy (no Mummy for the first time — getting so growed up).

Some Sidisms from the last few weeks:

“Bless yous are guy germs with swords.”

“I caught my hustle bum from you.”

“You got me a baby?”

“Are those my only options?” (In response to being told bath or no movie!)

“Look, look my nibbles have grown bigger” (pointing at her chest).

On tripping, “Don’t worry I am quite resilient.”

To Mummy laughing at the hair she refuses to brush: “I am bored of being teased.”

To Daddy who said no, “You have upsetted me, a lot.”

On discovering that she cannot fly to fairyland on paper wings, “I am very disappointed in my imagination.”

“Somebody, should get me a treat” or “Somebody should not be mean to me” (often, to Mummy and Daddy).

“I want E-I-E M-O-M” (spelling ice cream).

To Mommy: “I don’t like it when you say ‘interesting’– it sounds like a bad thing.”

“You have to jump over oxtables or you will fall!”

To the punk one line over at the supermarket, “Hey, you girl, I like your sparkles.”

“Odd is a mean word, its not pretty, we should not use it anymore.”

“I am going to have two babies (with Miss Erica) I am going to call them … Halloween and Valentines, no puddle and sunflower, no tree climber boy and big schoolgirl …” (hence the odd comment to Mummy’s use of “those are odd names”).

Hugs to all,
from Nonie (“that’s my real name”) “nickname Sidonie Ridgway” (“but I think you should call me sweetie pie”) Stern

Summer’s Last Gasp

Thinks: Are you sure?

In the dying days of summer Nonie got to go to a lot of birthday parties, managed a last swim in the now chilly lake, and started her career as queen of the toddler soccer pitch. Watch here for more sporting pics and the changing of the seasons, and (of course) the ever changing girl.

Sid’s Summer Holiday

Greetings from Birchlake

So, thanks to Babba and Popop, Sidonie (real name Nonie, as she insists) and Nat and Nicole, and some friends had a glorious vacation. It started with polka and fish fry and friends (Sarah, Aaron, Little Isaac and Naomi; Jeff, Big Isaac, Jessica, her Mom and Brother and Sister-in-law) where much freestyle dancing and jollification was done; we then all headed off to the Paradise cabin at Birchlake just outside of Tomah in the midwest (sic) of Wisconsin. It was crazy beautiful! 🙂 We swam; ate local fruit and veges, jams and pies; swam some more; made friends; went to see Amish country and learnt a lot about cranberries; swam again; had a lot of braais/barbeques; played board and card games; swam; hung out with the ‘rents (Popop was sadly sick); hung out with Jessica and Isaac, and Yev and Jim; swam and hot tubbed; and, generally had a fantastic time with spectacular company. Before heading home we went further west to La Crosse and had a magnificent tour on the Mississippi, ate Cajun style food in the old part of the town in what used to be the port, and had ice cream in an 80 year-old “malt shoppe”. Once home we extended our holiday for a day and went to the Wisconsin State Fair. Saw lots of animals, did lots of rides at the carnival, and rode a camel. Amazing time (even tho’ madam was a little tired and cranky). So, having run out of superlatives, that is our summer vacation in a nutshell. Hope yours was as good/will be as good (for those in the other hemisphere). Greetings from Birchlake indeed!
